THE MAP IS NOT A TERRITORY
AR Book

'The map is not the territory' is a phrase coined by Alfred Korzybski to illustrate the relationship between an object and a representation of that object. A map is just a description of geography, just as our sense of the world generated by our brain is a very incomplete model of what actually exists. In this project I explore  the dichotomy of things through a collection of essays and AR (augmented reality) illustrations.

Over the course of several chapters, this book delves into material such as Nick Bostrom's simulation hypothesis, Schrödinger’s Cat, and Jean Baudrillard's writings on hyperreality. The content has two different layers: One is the printed book and the other is conjured on a screen when recorded by a camera phone. Only by using AR technology can a reader complete the missing gaps of the puzzle. This project illustrates our provisional understanding of reality through the discrepancy of a tangible book and virtual space.
